Summary of Visioning Session

6/6/08

Background:  At the annual meeting on June, 6 2008, Rich Tariff led the group in a brainstorming exercise in regards to where the Vernon Community Network (VCN) should be putting its efforts over the course of the next year.

The following is a summary of ideas that were presented:

  • A VCN Directory and a Juvenile Review Board initiative were unanimously agreed upon.

  • The need for a Community Center in Rockville since many members are hearing that there isn’t anything to do in town from local youth.

  • The need for a crisis team to connect agencies in a major town event such as a house fire, gang incident, etc.

  • The VCN may want to connect with additional faith groups in order to strengthen the VCN.

  • The need for increased public relations for VCN.  A suggestion was made to have a PR subcommittee.  Another suggestion was made to have a VCN information table at local events.

  • The need for increased personal growth training since the April session was so well received.

  • The need for transitional living and what this group could contribute.

  •  The need for increased inter-agency communication to increase our knowledge about specific agency programs.

  • A suggestion was made to put a VCN advertisement into the adult education catalog.

PROGRAMS THAT HELP PEOPLE IN CONNECTICUT

A guide for agencies (2006-2008 Edition)

Connecticut Association for Human Services

Community Relations Department  - Connecticut Light and Power (CL&P)

Programs That Help People in Connecticut is an overview of federal, state, and local programs that provide assistance to Connecticut residents. The Connecticut Association for Human Services (CAHS) verified and updated the information in this booklet and Connecticut Light and Power (CL&P) provided the printing and publishing. We thank everyone who supplied information for this 2006-2008 edition.

THIS BOOKLET SHOULD BE USED AS A GUIDE as it contains only brief descriptions of complex programs whose guidelines, eligibility levels, and funding are subject to change. Since this booklet is printed every other year, IT IS IMPORTANT TO CHECK WITH THE ADMINISTERING AGENCY FOR CURRENT INFORMATION.

Vernon, CT 2008.  Hockanum Valley Community Council, Inc. (HVCC) is responsible for ordering food from Foodshare weekly to serve the clients of the Tri Town Pantry.  “Adopt A Week” is a new program launching at HVCC in order to supplement the $50.00 delivery charge set in place by Foodshare in 2008.

We are asking our generous community to sign up with us to “Adopt A Week.”  By sending in your $50.00 donation you will be covering the cost of the delivery.  This is a wonderful opportunity to designate your dollars and help our needy clients.  You can even donate and designate a week in honor of someone or in memory of someone.  Just let us know of your intentions and we will mail the recipient an acknowledgement of your gift.

Please mail your $50.00 check to HVCC, 155 West Main Street, Vernon, CT 06066, Attention: Adopt A Week.  We thank you in advance for your help.
