VCN - 2003 Meeting Family Summit Planning Meeting
Attending: Rich Tariff, Vicky Rispoli, Angela Atwater, Katrina Clark, Oz Ramos, Paula Claydon, Alan Slobodien
1. Concept Alan began with an explanation of his intention around the issue of families in Vernon. Vernon is a town in transition and the community has a need, from Alan’s viewpoint, to assess itself. Alan is looking to the planning committee to set forth an action plan that will consider the “face of the Vernon family” what the strengths, challenges, needs, hopes are and expected changes for Vernon.
2. Brainstorming Committee members began discussing and sharing changes they have witnessed and needs that the community needs to address. The following list of desired outcomes of a Family Summit emerged: · Educate families about available services in Vernon · Develop a forum or format whereby service providers can gain knowledge about available services in Vernon · Outreach to families – how will we inform families about this summit etc. · Inform decision-makers that Vernon is changing and have them assist in addressing these changes · Discuss diversity in Vernon · Hold monthly meetings of the planning committee to discuss community needs · Hold a “service providers summit” where providers can educate each other about their respective services · Develop a needs assessment tool · Produce a monthly/quarterly newsletter · Utilize the Rockville Reminder as a public relations tool · Invite business reps from the community to monthly meetings · Expand the planning committee · Check with other communities (Stratford/East Hartford) that have gone through this type of process Our next meeting: Wednesday, November 12th, 11:30a.m. – 12:45p.m. @ 9 Elm Street Lunch will be provided by Vernon Region Adult Education
